The other points raised in the correspondence have, I think, been adequately covered by my previous

despatch.

I note that the question of the use of

wireless as a protection against piracy has been discussed in the House of Commons. In this connection I would refer to paragraph 9 (t) on page 11 of the Report of the "Sui An" Piracy Commission (copy enclosed for facility of reference), in which several objections are pointed out. To these

I would add that, as I observed in paragraph 13 of my

previous despatch, it is by no means clear that a patrol vessel summoned by wireless could take effective action if once the pirates had obtained control of the ship.

The question is, however, receiving further consideration and we are about to experiment with semi- automatic wireless alarms, the adoption of which, if practicable, would remove the objection of expense, I have the honour to be,
